Bandara is a Director at the Sri Lanka Forest Institute. Worked as a researcher in forest tree improvement more than 15 years for the Forest Department of Sri Lanka, he also initiated tree breeding programs mainly for the commercial tree species (Eucalypts, Teak and Mahogany) and still continuing of them.
